Dignity
Truly, the name says it all.
Perched on a hill overlooking the Missouri River
(and the highway, but we won't mention that!)
surrounded by cedars, junipers and pines,
leaving a scent in the air that I wish I could bottle,
is a stunning 50 foot sculpture
representing the rich Native American culture of South Dakota.
During the day, the dancers star quilt,
featuring 128 stainless steel blue diamond shapes
shines in the sun, with the pieces changing color
depending on the amount of light.
Here's an idea of scale.
It's a breathtaking piece of art.
In the artists own words, (Dale Lamphere):
"My intent is for this sculpture to stand as an enduring symbol
of our shared belief that we are in a sacred place
and that we are all sacred."
Mission accomplished.
