Loose Ends - and another Road trip!
Hihanni waste.
(Good morning)
I know you'd all want to know that the mini-delegation was able to see and talk briefly with Sandy, Father John and Brian (Vista Volunteer) while we were in SD.
They were just finishing up an evening meeting as we pulled into Bishop Hare.
Sandy/Executive Director of HFH was on crutches, having broken his leg earlier in the week. He should have been home with his leg elevated, not gimping up the dorm steps on crutches, but what can you do with someone who insists on being a poor patient?? He sheepishly admitted that he broke it by stepping in a prairie dog hole while chasing a cow!
Those little suckers may be cute but apparently their homes are deadly!
We ran into Sandys uncle, Sylvan White Hat, at the graduation ceremonies - and he said that he actually HAD gotten his grass cut - finally - although he was sure we would have done a better job!
Allen came in first place - in our hearts and, while he didn't place in the competition, he was excited about his first large dance opportunity and looking forward to many more.
AND... drum roll, please...
We have been notified that the staff and Board of Directors has chosen the Emmanuel/Christ Lutheran Adult Mission Trip group as the Sicangu Tikaga Okiciyapi HFH 2009 Support Partner of the Year.
We will be recognized and presented with a plaque at a banquet for all the State Affiliates in November 2009.
SOOOO... everybody check your calendars and see who's available for another road trip back to SD.
The banquet is set for Saturday, November 7th, 2009.
While we don't have any additional information at this time, I would suspect that the banquet will be in Rapid City, or another major population center, since it's for the whole state organization of HFH.
I'm thinking of driving out on Friday, 11/6; going to the banquet the next night and heading back home on Sunday, 11/8.
We'll let you know as we get more information but I would LOVE for another mini-delegation to be present.
Besides, we're getting plenty of experience fine tuning the routes to take - and we have a new 'best time' of 12.5 hrs for the trip!
Peeing and stopping for meals is highly overrated - and can clearly be eliminated with a little more practice!!
Heaven knows Andy, Kathi and I pushed BOTH these limits this last time!! (TMI???)
Check calendars - and let me know who's IN for a fall trip to SD!
