Starting in 2000 and continuosly since 2005, Emmanuel Episcopal and Christ Lutheran have joined in June to travel to Mission, South Dakota to work on the Rosebud Lakota Reservation for a week. Starting in 2005 our project has been to work with the STO - Sicangu Tikaga Okiciyapi - Habitat For Humanity affiliate housed in the Bishop Hare Center in Mission.

This is an adults only mission trip modeled in large part on the youth mission trips so successful at Emmanuel over many years. In fact we first found out about the mission trip possibility on Rosebud Reservation from our youth who worked in Rosebud in 1991, 1994 & 1998.

We expect this year to be working on roof trusses and interior walls on a house which is being built onsite at the Bishop Hare Center. Upon completion of the house on some future date, the Lakota Tribe will move the house to the new owner's site where a foundation will have been built by other Habitat workers and the family, following the Habitat International model will take possession of the house.

Last year the Adult Mission Trip started on a home for Sam, his wife and 5 children. We started from scratch and by the end of the week had the front exterior wall up and braced in place and the opposite wall completed and ready to raise. The next group in got the privilege to raise our back wall and start on the end walls and the roof trusses.

As we generate pictures from the 2009 trip, we will replace some of the pictures you see here with current pictures.

Welcome! Join us in thought, questions, comments and in prayer as we work together experiencing the inherent satisfaction of knowing that we are building homes for God's people in need.
