Full 24 hours since arrival.
Traveled for 15 hrs in 95 degree weather, then blessed with a short rain and complete climate change.
Temp dropped to 48 degrees during the night!
Chilly when we all woke up after sleeping (fitfully) for 4 hrs.
Most slept under a tin roof; 4 slept in the van; 3 in the Bishop Jones building; 1 outlier slept under the stars!
Lovely Convocation with sermon by Bishop Coadjutor, The Very Reverend John Tarrant.
Caught up w/old friends and met new ones over lunch. Sadness to learn of the deaths or illnesses of people we'd connected with or worked alongside of on previous trips.
Temp got up in the high 80's; "but it's a dry heat w/wind!"
Grocery shopping, spending time w/our first 'partner family', dinner , circle - - and realizing all our nights are booked for the rest of the week w/social engagements!
Work for HFH begins in earnest tomorrow;lots of projects lined up; multiple work sites.
Some of us already dealing with sunburn from 2+ hrs in unremitting sun during church service.
Memo to self - - use sunscreen!
We've decided that we are exempt from church services for at least a month, maybe more. The service was overseen by FOUR, count 'em FOUR bishops! Connecticut, Tennesse, South Dakota, and the Bishop co-adjutor of South Dakota.

I hope everyone is having fun! We are so excited to keep up with you on your adventures!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you all arrived safely. It's cooler in St. Louis, too, but certainly not 48 degrees. Thanks for all you're doing in the name of Emmanuel. Hope the work goes well and the evening socialization is rewarding!
