How can it be Friday already?
The work crews were split between two houses today...continuing work on the 5 bedroom but also going up on a plateau outside of town and working on a 2 bedroom for Lisa, a single mom and her two children.
The view out Lisa's back door...
and the road up to her house.
The direction I was given to her house was "get on the unpaved road and keep going on the straight and narrow path until you can't go any further"... which, as we all know, is easier said than done!!
What a wonderful metaphor and I'm sure I'll be reflecting on it at length later, but, truth is, I'm too tired tonight!!
Work today was done under a blistering, unrelenting sun...with little shade and the hottest temperatures of the summer so far.
Clearly God trying to prepare us for returning to St Louis!
Today is the anniversary of the Lakota victory at the Battle of Little Big Horn and the Friday night Wacipi (Pow-wow) in Rosebud was a celebration of that event. It was a small gathering, almost a dress rehearsal, for tomorrow's main dance. We have yet to figure out how it is that every Wacipi we've attended has such magnificent sunsets, but it never fails.
Friday night Pow-wow has become a bittersweet way to spend time with friends that always signals an impending departure.
which, of course, can be handle with humor, no matter what your tribe!!
Someone once said to a mission team, as they were preparing to return home, "Don't think you were here for a vacation, or even for an adventure. God sent you here for a reason, to make a difference here but also to make a difference when you get back home. Go home now and live your life in such a way that you figure out what that reason was; figure out why God sent you to us".
Continue to hold us in prayer, not only for a safe journey back, but for discernment in the days and months to come.
While we now have a glimpse of how God intended to use us on the reservation this week, we trust that he's not finished with us yet!
